Future Openings: Reporting Internship Application

Ends on

We place reporting interns throughout the L.A. Times: Metro/Local, Entertainment & Arts, Fast Break, Sports, Business, Editorial Pages, Foreign/National, Features (Fashion, Food, Travel, Home Design, Mind & Body), De Los, Image and in our Sacramento and Washington, D.C., bureaus. These are paid internships with spring sessions starting between January and March and summer placements usually running from June to August. There's also the possibility of off-cycle internships that have rolling start dates.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be actively working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and must be eligible to work in the U.S. Graduates may qualify if you've finished school within six months of the start of the internship. Applicants for the reporting positions must have a valid driver's license and access to a car in good working condition. (A car is not required for the Editorial Pages internship.) Internships are for students who have not worked professionally as staff journalists. A deep understanding of the work is required as interns are expected to hit the ground running when they arrive. This is an advanced program, with one to two previous internships strongly recommended. With training from our staff, we will help develop, polish and elevate your work and add to your journalistic toolbox.

TO APPLY: Submit a cover letter; resume with three references; one-page personal essay; and up to six work samples. There is no prompt for the essay.

DEADLINE: The deadline for priority L.A. Times reporting internships has passed. However, you can still submit an application by June 1, 2025, to be considered for future roles including internships and other early-career opportunities. Please note: You will only receive correspondence if your application is being considered for a position.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
