This application is for the political reporting internship in our Washington, D.C., bureau. You are also welcome to apply to our L.A.-based reporting spots; details are at latimes.com/interns and the application can be found at 2023 L.A. Times Summer Reporting Internships. This is a paid internship and summer placements usually run from mid-June to late August.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be actively working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and be a junior or above. Graduates may qualify if you've finished school within six months of the start of the internship. Internships are for students who have not worked professionally as staff journalists. A deep understanding of the work is required as interns are expected to hit the ground running when they arrive. This is an advanced program, and one or two previous internships are strongly recommended. With training from our staff, we will help develop, polish and elevate your work and add to your journalistic toolbox.
TO APPLY: Submit a cover letter; resume with three references; one-page personal essay; and up to six work samples. There is no prompt for the essay.
DEADLINE: Nov. 15
